With the first real summer sun this year 18 School?s from the Mendip area took part in the Mini Olympics on Wednesday 11th July. Despite the baking heat results for St Paul?s athletes were extremely good.

The relay events saw more excitement with all teams putting in maximum effort. Upper School boys performed well with joint 5th place but Upper School Girls stole the glory by securing the silver medals for their 2nd place in a time of 65.4.
FIELD EVENT RESULTS

The Lower School Ball Throw saw Jessica Leach throw 17m 20cm for 7th place. For the boys Jonathon Durbin threw a huge 32m 69 for 6th place. For Upper School it was javelin with Elisabete Assis throwing 11m 50cm to come 6th .place overall. Lewis Clarke threw for the Upper School boys, yet another Year 5 competing against Year 6?s! SOFT HAMMER (UPPER SCHOOL ONLY)
Elisabete also competed in the Soft hammer for Upper School throwing 17m 94cm to come 5th giving an all round good performance in the throws.
The Soft Hammer event produced the ?Man of the Match? with Rowan Harding throw an incredible 26m 43cm nearly 3 metres further than the next competitor. This amazing performance won Rowan 1st place and a gold medal. This was particularly impressive considering that yet again Rowan was another Year 5 competing against Year 6 athletes. Well done Rowan!

The Lower Girls had a Standing Long Jump as their event with Charlotte Cox jumping 1m 46cm coming 12th overall. Lower School boys had Morgan Withers competing with a

*STAR PERFORMANCE ALL ROUND
The afternoon ended with fantastic results - St Paul?s Upper School Team became champions winning the trophy and cup. I plan to get the trophy engraved immediately and then display it in the foyer along with the cup.
St Paul?s also did amazingly well and with both upper and lower school success combined we came 2nd overall. Well done you star athletes!
FINALLY
I would like to say THANK YOU to all those parents who came to support especially those who helped with transport.
Plus another SPECIAL THANK YOU to Mr Jupp and Mr Gibbons who have not only turned up religiously week after week to help out with Athletics Club, but who also volunteered to be officials on the Mini Olympics day.
THANKS also goes to Kimberley Bartlett and Danni Laugharne who have both helped out at most of the after school Athletics sessions and Mrs Williams who also helped out at some as well. (I could not have done it without them all!).
